“When you feed 6, you can easily feed 7”.
Inspired by her adopted mother, a poor Angolian refugee mother who already had 6 young mouths to feed and adopted young Maria at a time when the adoption of a white child by a black mother was taboo, Portuguese born Maria Conceicao has set up a legacy under the name of the Maria Cristina Foundation.
Moved by the dire conditions of the slums of Dhaka, Maria took it upon herself as a flight attendant to look for local sponsorship to support her seemingly impossible mission. From collecting donations to challenging herself to a daring feat at the North Pole with 5 young Bangladeshi students to running local marathons to raise funds, this inspirational woman has brightened the future of hundreds. Her next adventure involves swimming across the English Channel to raise more funds!
The Maria Cristina Foundation has set up schools in Dhaka, arranged for scholarships and job placements, and given the #ChildrenOfDhaka a taste of hope. For more information on her incredible story, visit the website www.mariacristinafoundation.org
In honor of ‘World Literacy Week‘, Souq Extra hosted 6 young Bangladeshi girls from the Maria Cristina Foundation for a fun-filled girls’ day out. These bright young ladies have beaten all odds by winning scholarships at a prestigious university in Portugal, and have been spending the summer in Dubai across various internship placements.
Souq Extra gave the girls pocket money to buy student life essentials as they head back to university this week.
Exquisite Beauty Store was kind enough to host the girls for complimentary makeover sessions and free goodie bags.
The girls also received delicious boxes of French pastries from Sale Sucre.
