March 8, 2018
With two major female-oriented celebrations on the calendar, namely International Women’s Day and Arabic Mother’s Day, the month of March is touted to be a celebration of women.
International Women’s Day falls on 8th March and commemorates the movement of women’s rights.
8th March was chosen to be the celebrated date for International Women’s Day by the International Women’s Conference way back in 1910.
Interestingly, women in Russia gained suffrage on 8th March, 1917 and it has since become a national holiday.
United Nations only adopted the ‘International Women’s Day’ concept in 1975.
This year, the International Women’s Day forum has come up with the hashtag #PressforProgress to re-emphasize the importance of gender neutrality.
“Now, more than ever, there’s a strong call-to-action to press forward and progress gender parity. There’s a strong call to #PressforProgress motivating and uniting friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.” – internationalwomensday.com
